School Closures

Canby School District may need to close schools due to weather conditions or other emergency situations. If student transportation and/or safety cannot be assured, then the decision to cancel school or close a school early may be necessary. CSD works with First Student Transportation to make early morning decisions about weather-related closures and announcements are soon broadcast by all area television and radio stations--both English and Spanish speaking stations. The same information will be available on each web site. Announcements of school closures are usually made before 6:30am unless late-breaking weather causes a different timeline for announcement.

If a school or schools must close after students are already at school, the same procedure will be followed regarding notification through our emergency announcement system and posting information on all district web sites. Elementary schools attempt to reach parents by phone, if possible, if this emergency closure must occur.

Canby School District subscribes to an effective notification system in preparation for any emergency that might require school closure, delay, or early release. As soon as a decision is made for school closure, delay, or early release, the information is immediately released to the media and posted to Internet.
